Werbowy’s graceful, feline beauty has enthralled the world’s most important fashion designers, photographers, editors and taste makers for several seasons. She’s appeared on the cover of every major fashion magazine, on the catwalks of New York, Milan, Paris and London, and in the advertising of the most prestigious brands.
Werbowy, whose last name means willow tree, was born in Warsaw, Poland, and moved with her family to Mississauga, Canada, at the age of four. She worked as an extra when Toronto became a popular place to film movies and television programs and was encouraged to model when she grew too tall to fit into children’s costumes.
The 5’10” teenager tried modeling full-time after graduation, but didn’t immediately conquer the fashion world–despite attempts to morph her image. “Everyone said, ‘Cut your hair, create a look for yourself.’ I had bleached blonde hair, short brown hair, you name it,” recalls Daria. “The lesson I learned was to be myself.”
