Introducing Aaron De Mey: Lancôme’s New Artistic Director for Makeup
"Surprise is everything I’m about. My objective in life is to create surprise." So says Aaron De Mey, the makeup guru who is bringing his special touch to the French beauty brand. Aaron hails from New Zealand, calls the Lower East Side of New York home and spends quite a bit of time working in Paris. He was recently named Artistic Director for Makeup, which means he will help create or consult on all new Lancôme cosmetics.
Aaron is wildly inventive and inspired by punk rock, contemporary art and street fashion, but at the same time he has an enormous respect for the history of makeup. He can tell you about the techniques used by makeup legends Way Bandy and Serge Lutens and show you just how Marlene Dietrich got that gorgeous glossy eyelid in black and white photos. (She mixed petroleum jelly and ash. Not sure if you want to try that at home!) Supermodels love him—just ask our very own Daria Werbowy—and we’re confident Lancôme fans will too.
