1935:The Creation of a Beauty Temple

Just as much a beauty visionary as he was a businessman and perfumer, in 1935 Armand Petitjean looked to Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré to create Institut Lancôme, a dedicated beauty and wellbeing space entirely in keeping with his Lancôme empire.

As such, the old townhouse, with its neoclassical wrought iron doors set in the chicest part of Paris, was the first of its kind. If expectations ran high before the institute opened, they were certainly met with plenty of charm. Nothing was left to chance, from the stunning use of mirrors, to the sophisticated airy open spaces, everything was designed to reveal breathtaking beauty and unmatched refinement. The proof that Armand Petitjean was onto a winning idea? Over eight decades later, the Lancôme Institute now extends across two floors with beauty and perfume on the first floor and skincare treatments and massage services available on the second, making it a true French temple to beauty.
