Six supercharged workouts

Want to make the most out of a range of different sports, but need time? Good news! A host of gyms are giving some of their sessions a powerful boost by mixing and matching sports for an unparalleled workout. Here are Lancôme’s Paris favorites.

Tigre’s Hatha workout

The body-boosting blend:
Floor barre meets hatha yoga (a form of yoga based on the practice of 1/ yoga positions, 2/ breathing exercises and 3/ concentration) for a workout that trains you to stay as stretched and supple as a dancer with the deep muscle strength of a yogi.
The workout:
Over 90 minutes Tigre combines a range of yoga positions with stretches on the barre, focusing on legs, arms and the pointing and flexing of feet. The goal? To build deep muscle strength in a peaceful and harmonious way all the while applying a string of tried-and-tested movements that the in-house instructor Myrto helps you to perfect. It’s great for putting spring back in your step, strengthening abs and generally toning the body.
Go for:
The exhilarating feeling of total calm that envelops you immediately after the class and lasts for several days afterwards.

Take yoga, add a host of stretching movements and prepare to increase your ability to move - and stretch - like a cat with this New York import.
The workout:
A gentle-paced class that’s perfect for beginners. Each session brings together a range of flowing yoga movements that are designed to be held in position for as long as possible while visualizing positive images and without losing touch with the muscles being used. The result? A radical way to calm the body and mind, develop concentration and coordination, promote self awareness and relieve physical and mental stress.

A workout that helps eliminate toxins and bolsters the immune system.

Afrovibe

The body-boosting blend:
Think cardio training meets dance with this new workout concept that’s been brought to France from the US by friends Maryam Kaba (coach to many a fashion editor) and dancer Doris Martel.
The workout:
The classic cardio dance workout gets an African dance twist with the addition of a few samba and Indian dance vibes. The goal? To maximize how much energy you burn while strengthening, through the repeated positions that engage muscles. Pilates Fusion at Klay

The body-boosting blend:
Pilates and floor barre exercises are brought together by Adèle van Damme in this new class that shakes up the image of what’s considered a low-key workout, by creating a highly athletic session that targets muscles and realigns the body.
The workout:
Over the course of 60 minutes, participants alternate between a range of Pilates movements and barre stretches – all mixed in with a few yoga positions set to a fast-paced soundtrack. While shoulders, arms, legs and even toes can be left feeling tired, there’s no need to panic, after just a few sessions the body strengthens, stretches and adjusts.
Go for:
The feeling you’ve stretched your entire body out by a few centimetres after class.

Jet Bike O2

The body-boosting blend:
Running and biking inside a water chamber. The difference? With 900 litres of water pumped into each workout chamber (as opposed to the average 300 litres you’ll find in other water biking workouts) this workout’s intensity is multiplied 12-fold.
The workout:
Each 30-minute session is divided into two parts, starting with a session of intense water biking followed by some underwater treadmill running. Because running against water currents engages a host of muscles including the abs, you’ll enjoy a calorie burn of between 300 and 500 calories with each session
Go for:
A post workout treat: The chamber transforms into a mini Jacuzzi for the perfect cool-down.
So-Forme, 5 Rue de Senlis, 75017 Paris. 30 minutes. Tel.: 09 83 58 48 25. www.aquabikecity.fr

The bootcamp at the Ken Club

The body-boosting blend:
TRX (Total Resistance Exercise) meets cardio for increased muscle building. Developed by the US military, this specially adapted version of bootcamp is taught in a group setting.
The workout:
Each commando-style class uses TRX equipment to strengthen deep muscles, work the heart and build stamina. Muscle-building exercises include squats, lunges and weight training moves with and without free weights for a workout that’s perfect for the sport-minded. Classes are overseen by the ever-efficient coach Mehdi Ouchène.
