Penélope Cruz, Lancôme’s newest ambassadress—and the first Spanish actress to ever win an Academy Award—stars in the romantic commercials and print advertising for Lancôme’s iconic Trésor fragrance. “Lancôme is like an homage to all women,” says Penélope about the new relationship. “It’s also an homage to love, the way all these women have been photographed over the years.”
This Academy Award winner has proven herself to be one of the most versatile young actresses by playing a variety of compelling characters. First introduced to American audiences in the Spanish film “Jamón, Jamón,” Penélope starred in her first English language film, “Hi-Lo Country,” in 1998. Penélope’s prominence in American cinema skyrocketed soon after. A series of coveted roles in films as varied as “All About My Mother,” which was awarded the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Foreign Film, and a starring turn with Tom Cruise in the erotic thriller “Vanilla Sky” soon followed.
It was Woody Allen’s “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” opposite future husband Javier Bardem, which earned Penélope an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. A year later, the star made history with a third Oscar nomination for her standout portrayal of Carla in the film version of the musical “Nine.” This marked only the third time in Oscar history where the winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress was nominated for the same award in the following year.
2011 will surely be another fantastic year for Penélope. Not only will she star alongside Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the highly anticipated fourth installment of the movie series that is being directed by Rob Marshall, but she is expecting her first baby. Lancôme couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this remarkable woman’s life.
